FCMS Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with an on-call provider skilled in trauma management and critical care. Our Emergency Room is staffed with nurses and paramedics, specially trained and certified in emergency care.
Preparations for the Emergency Room
- If possible, call ahead to let emergency room staff know you are on the way.
- Call your doctor, if possible. He or she may meet you at the emergency room or call in important information.
- Take along a list of medications you are currently taking. Prepare to discuss your medications, past test results, or treatments.
- If you have seen a doctor before for a similar problem, take the record from the visit with you. Information about your allergies, medications, and health conditions may be critical.
- While you wait to see the doctor, make a checklist describing symptoms.
- Make a list of questions to ask the doctor.
Questions about tests, medication, or treatments
- What’s the name of the medication, test, or procedure?
- Why do I need it?
- What are the risks?
- Are there alternatives?
- What happens if I do nothing?
- How do I take medications?
- How do I prepare for tests?
Questions to ask before leaving
- Do I need a return visit?
- Can I call for test results?
- What danger signs should I look for?
- When should I report back an update on my condition?
- What else do I need to know?
For emergencies call 911.
In an emergency, minutes matter!
Getting the right care within a few minutes can mean the difference between full recovery and permanent impairment for victims of heart attack, stroke, trauma, severe pain, or poison.
First Care Medical Services has an Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service (ALS) with two emergency teams consisting of an EMT-B and a Paramedic, available 24/7.
