Personal attention during labor and delivery means individualized care and timely answers to questions that may arise.
Certified Nurse Midwives are licensed health care practitioners who are qualified to administer drugs and perform medical procedures. Our certified nurse midwife provides prenatal, labor, and delivery care, as well as physical exams, health screenings, and a wide range of early pregnancy information and family planning counseling. She also performs routine gynecological care, including Pap smears and breast exams.
Family support is encouraged throughout the birth experience to foster a relaxed labor setting in the safe atmosphere of the hospital, but at the same time surrounding the mother with the comfort of family. The entire birth experience is spent in the delivery suite with plenty of room for all the family.
Today, most mothers breastfeed because of its numerous benefits to mother and baby. A breastfeeding educator teaches the new mother breast feeding techniques and addresses the common challenges and unusual circumstances of breastfeeding. She talks with the mother about how to plan her diet to best provide for her new baby. The lactation educator is also available to mothers after they return home to help with problems that may arise. Classes and support group are available.
After delivery the new parents actively begin to care for their new baby in a relaxed environment. A post-partum educator visits with mom about the care of the newborn, and together they design the education program that will help make the transition at home easier. The goal is to ensure that no parent leaves the hospital with unanswered questions.

"Having a baby at First Care was a good experience for me as well as my family. I had a C-Section, and the nurses put the baby right on my shoulder after he was born. They prepped him right beside me so I could watch them. I was back in my room within a half hour of the surgery, so I could be with my family and see Emily's (my daughter) reaction to the new baby. I really appreciated being part of the whole process, instead of being separated from it all in the recovery room by myself." said Sarah pictured with Dr. Charles Winjum and her new son Owen.

"Dr. Swanson has been my doctor for many years. He takes a personal interest in us and listens carefully when we ask questions. Then he takes the time to answer them completely. He delivered my other two children, and we have always been very happy with him as our doctor" said Jill Saeter.
