How does MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) make knee replacement better?
Joint replacement surgery is becoming very common and technology continues to advance, bringing with it increased success and more comfort for the patient. On Tuesday, January 12, Dr. Glenn Johnson who serves patients in Bagley, Bemidji, Deer River, Fosston, Red Lake, White Earth and Walker explained and demonstrated the new surgical procedure of using MRI 3-dimensional pictures during knee replacement surgery.
During a Lunch N Learn presentation at First Care Medical Services in Fosston he explained the advantages for both doctors and patients. He demonstrated how surgeons make precise measurements before surgery, and explained how those measurements shorten the length of surgery and lessen the number of instruments needed during surgery. The end result for the pateint is less pain because of a better fit. He also provided information on other advances in surgery for treatments of carpal tunnel and shoulder repairs. In all instances patients would experience less pain and quicker recovery.
