No rain for the rummage sale!

The 9th Annual Rummage Sale at First Care Medical Services Long Term Care on Friday, August 13th drew many shoppers as welll as browsers in spite of the cloudy morning. The threatening clouds produced no rain and the sale proceeded as planned. The residents at the nursing home enjoyed the fair-like atmosphere as they watched visitors come and go. Many shoppers took time to visit with friends and relatives who live at First Care.
The rummage sale began at 10 am with tables piled high with merchandise. Some people came just for the Food Court. The animals for the petting zoo, provided by 4-H club members and volunteers, kept the small fry busy. Dwayne Carver brought in his quarter horse Imp and his grandchildren, Korbyn and Kynndyl Ross, supervised the rides. The Silent Auction took bids until 5 p.m.
With the proceeds of the sale, the Resident Council decides what woul most benefit the whole Long Ter Care hoursehold. In the past years, proceeds have been used to purchase such items as the WhisperGlide Swing, bookcases, park benches and flowers for the courtyard, money to host a Halloween party, Karoake machines, outings for the residents, donations to the hospital fund and food shelf, money to maintain the bird aviary and many other miscellaneous projects.
"This is such a wonderful project for our residents. They begin to enjoy it the week before the event when they start sorting through the donate items to pick something for their room. We are so appreciative of the community for coming to volunteer and support it. The collection of donated items from the community and staff for our silent auction are unique items ranging from homemade jellies and wine to antique furniture and dishes. There is always something for everyone," said Carrie Welin, Social Services Director.

Logan Etter, a visitor from Washington state, found plenty to do in the petting zoo. Elizabeth Olson and Mary Welin were in charge of the many animals in the petting zoo.

Horse rides were supervised by Korbyn and Kynndyl Ross during the Rummage Sale at First Care.

Kendall Hand found a shovel just her size to bring home at the Rummage Sale.
